It's All About Being Transparent and Being Given a Choice

At Medicx Media, we adhere to the Federal government privacy regulations known as HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) of 1996. Medicx Media licenses its data from trusted third-party data providers who maintain databases of de-identified health and medical data. The data is certified to be compliant with the de-identification provisions of HIPAA in three ways:

  1. The technical software methodology for de-identification of transactional data is certified to be compliant

  2. Each individual source data feed is certified to be de-identified

  3. The universe of the database also maintains a separate certification of de-identification

Certifications are performed and documented by third-party statisticians who are experienced in conducting HIPAA - related data de-identification and privacy analyses. Medicx Media’s data providers rely on the statistical de-identification provision of the law, in which a covered entity may determine that health information is not individually identifiable:

  1. Only if a person with appropriate knowledge of and experience with generally accepted statistical and scientific principles and methods for rendering information not individually identifiable; and

  2. Applying such principles and methods, determines that the risk is very small that the information could be used, alone or in combination with other reasonably available information, by an anticipated recipient to identify an individual who is a subject of the information; and

  3. Documents the methods and results of the analysis that justify such determination
